- Full year elective class for grades 6-12
- Focuses on college and career readiness skills
What is AVID Excel?
- An AVID class for long-term English Language
- Learners (full year elective class for grades 6-8 at specific middle schools)
- Focuses on language development and college and career readiness skills
An AVID/AVID Excel Student…
- Demonstrates desire to attend college and the determination to get there
- Is in the “academic middle” (2.0-3.5 GPA or mostly 2s and 3s; average to high test scores)
- May be the first in their family to attend college, low income, historically underserved on college campuses, or experience other special circumstances
As AVID Scholars We…
- Succeed in rigorous classes
- Meet college entrance requirements
- Apply & are accepted to 4 year universities
- Serve as leaders in our classrooms & communities
In the AVID Class We…
- Visit college campuses
- Create an AVID family
- Learn from guest speakers
- Learn strategies for success in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading
- Help each other problem solve in Tutorials and Scholar Groups
- Give back to our community through service learning
