Dear Crossler Families,
It is with great excitement to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! My hope is that you are still enjoying your summer and the time together with family and friends. While we still have a few weeks left before school starts we wanted to get some information to you so that you can start to plan for the Fall.
This year Crossler staff and students will be expanding our vision from “We Belong” to being “Better Together.” We know that when we work together we can accomplish some great things for our community. We would encourage you to collaborate, communicate, and be involved in our school as much as you are able this year. We are always happy to have volunteers be part of our school!
The first day of school for 6th grade students is September 6. This will give an opportunity for all 6th grade students to be able to learn our hallways and class schedules before the 7th and 8th grade return on September 7. The doors will open at 8:55 for breakfast. Students will go directly to the Commons to collect their schedules and then will proceed to the gym until the start of their Advisory at 9:20. Throughout the day students will have opportunities to make some new friends and learn about each other.
7th and 8th graders will pick up their schedules on September 7th in the gym and then report directly to their advisory classes. The first day for 7th and 8th grade students is a late start Wednesday.
Salem-Keizer schools will be continuing the late start Wednesdays all year. On these days, doors will open for breakfast at 9:55 and 1st period will start at 10:20.
We hope that you continue to enjoy your summer and we are looking forward to seeing everyone back in a few short weeks!

Attendance Information
|
||||
To report a student absent from school due to illness, doctor appointment, or for personal family reasons, a parent will need to call the attendance line at 503-399-3514. Students may also bring a note from a parent upon their return to school. Please remember that you must excuse an absence within three days of your student’s return to school. Severe health problems that cause excessive absences must be excused with a doctor’s note.
Students who are not feeling well during their school day need to report to the Main office and a call to a parent or emergency contact person if they need to go home will be made. If a student arrives late to school: Students must check in at the attendance window and have a note excusing their tardiness |
||||
Checking a student out for a doctor’s appointment:
If it is an unplanned appointment the student does not know about, please call the attendance office at least 30 minutes before the student’s departure time. If it is a pre-planned appointment, please send a signed note with your student letting the office know the details and have your student bring the note to the attendance window before school. Attendance office staff will call the student down when it is time for them to check out. |

Visitors and Volunteers
For security purposes, all doors entering into the school are kept locked throughout the day. All visitors must ring the doorbell for entry and be checked in at the main office upon entering the building. Crossler greatly appreciates our parent volunteers! For the safety of our students a “Criminal History Check” is required for every volunteer. These forms can be completed at the district web address: http://www.salemkeizer.org/content/human-resources/volunteer |
